I really enjoyed this book. Written in an amusing style with anecdotes, practical tips for actually making things stick in your mind, an almost a bit out of the box way to make progress learning a language and would obviously apply to any other tongue.
Well done to the author.
In my book, when somebody says "not just" something, it actually includes the "just" and has other stuff as well. This book had nothing of the "not just", in this case words - in French! I too feel that learning a language should include culture, anecdotes, and history of the language - but I was very disappointed when there was no French to learn from this book. In short, it went back!
I did not learn a thing from this book. I know it was free but honestly it is not even worth it to take up space on your .

I was a little surprised that this had nothing to do with learning French but rather a short philosophical discussion of the French and living in France.
An earnest plea by a man who obviously cares that it's not JUST about learning individual words in French. It's also learning about the life and times and beliefs and loves and attitudes of the French people.
Good basic book
